Thich Nhat Hanh Tour (2009)

CALIFORNIA EVENTS
September 8-13, 2009: English Retreat, Deer Park Monastery, Escondido, CA

Title: "The World We Are - Planting Peace, Harvesting Happiness"

Registration is now being held open at this retreat because the Blue Cliff Monastery Retreat has reached capacity. But please register sooner rather than later while there is still space available.

Join Thich Nhat Hanh, monastics, and other lay friends in the mountains of Deer Park Monastery to practice caring for ourselves and our world. We will practice as a community, as a spiritual family learning the art of tending the gardens of our mind and body. We will learn and practice how to breathe, sit, and walk freely and peacefully, so we may enjoy the present moment and be present to the wonders of our world that is always available.

Being a happy human being is the greatest talent and the most needed skill that we can offer to ourselves and our loved ones. It is an important gift to our world and an essential element to our efforts to preserve our planet. Download information (PDF).

Register online now or download the registration form (PDF) to fax or mail. Please use the Facebook Event Page to connect and make carpool arrangements. The World Beat Sangha in San Diego has agreed to help facilitate arrivals at the San Diego Airport. They will greet as many arriving retreatants as possible at San Diego Airport on September 8th. They will be holding a sign and stand at baggage claim. They will help arrivals group up to share shuttles to Deer Park both to save money, resources and make them all feel welcome. Members of the sangha have arranged a special price negotiated with a shuttle company who can be reached at 800-777-0585. With 3 passenger min and up to 10 per shuttle they will charge us $50 for the first person and $7 per additional. (normal is $62 and &9). We are under no obligation to use them but they have 3 shuttle lines (Advance, Easy Rider and Sea Breeze) and want to help. All 3 can be booked at the same number.

  • Sept. 19, 2009, 4:00 pm, Public Talk at The Pasadena Civic, Pasadena, CA
Title: "Our True Agenda - Tending to the Space Inside"
There is work to be done – errands to run, places to care for, people to see, and plans to be realized. How can mindfulness practice and meditation be relevant to the needs and demands of our times? What practices of a contemplative life can be applied to our daily life? An evening to explore and examine our agenda and our priorities as it relates to our inner word, the environment and people around us. We will hear the insights of a renowned teacher who has been a monk for over sixty years and has also been teaching in the West for more than 40 years. Must the plans and work for a better future always start from the work within ourselves?
